Finishing Up October 2011
Darling little Emily in her bunny suit at church last Sunday. She and her family always sit on the front row and we sit about on the 3rd or 4th right behind them. I love watching her as she grows. Her brother and sisters are crazy about her and always want to be the one holding her.
I got ambitious and made a batch of cinnamon rolls with orange frosting to give away to various people.
I put them in ice cream cartons and put this pumpkin face on it.
Rosalie Ringwood brought me this cute potholder/trivet that she had made from Halloween fabric - it is woven like a placemat.
Sister Welch makes an ornament for the 100 ornament project that the District is doing for families still in temporary housing in Tohoku.
Sister Sorenson (now released as District RS President) showing a ball that will be transformed into an ornament.
Choosing the fabric for the balls.
Our table! Rulon bought me the flowers and pumpkin and gourds at the flower stand. I think they add a lot to our fall decor!
A tree loaded with persimmons - a fall fruit.
Some other sisters and I went to a shrine sale (like a flea market) and we passed this on our way there - it looked like grave markers. Perfect for my Halloween post!
We also saw these shoes as planters - reminds me of Forrest Gump!
Bamboo mats - I guess they were to be thrown away but they still looked good to me!
This orange building was such an odd shape and color - more Halloween fun!
Here we are approaching the shrine.
Some of our group - what a perfect fall day for an outing!
Vendors and shoppers - hundreds of items both old and new. It was fun to browse and see things that are uniquely Japanese.
The steps leading up to the shrine. I am assuming that these sales which are held on the 28th of each month help generate funds for the upkeep of the shrine.

More October Fun 2011
Here we are at Jo Scoffield's where she is teaching us to "crazy quilt".
Corrie made a Christmas hot pad!
Elder Watabe (nearly 71) does the lotus position!
Family Home Evening at the Froelichs' beautiful apartment on the 22nd floor.

Rulon tries the lotus position ...
And then push ups!
Joanne and Wade Fillmore at FHE.
Getting our apartment windows washed - they did a very thorough job taking out all windows and screens and really cleaning them.
Our kimono quilt blocks are finished and we had our exchange! We got together for lunch at Lacy Chipman's apartment in the US Embassy compound.
Trying to choose from each stack was hard!
What a fun project! We now each have 12 different blocks and make a quilt or wall hanging from them. We will have great memories as we look at each square and remember the person who made it!
Today we did a service project for some people who had come down to the temple from the Tohoku area where there was so much destruction. We made lunches for them to take and eat on the long way home.
Salads ...
Rolls (mine), cookies, muffins, apple and oranges, veggies ...
We also gave them some Christmas ornaments that we had made.
Some Cub Scouts were carving pumpkins at the church while we were assembling the lunches.
Here's the whole group - they were very appreciative of our efforts in their behalf. Today was the groundbreaking for the Sapporo Temple! Soon, maybe they will be going up to that temple instead of coming to Tokyo.
We were out walking today and saw that there is going to be an Octoberfest in the park tomorrow. They were setting up today.

Love the signs!
Pumpkins can be had - for a price! A medium-sized one would be about $15.00.
Sad notice - National Azabu (our grocery store that caters to Americans) is closing! It has been around for at least 50 years. Guess they are going to build an earthquake proof one.
This is the Indian fellow that we buy from sometimes on Saturdays. He speaks English and is so fun. Rulon likes to tease him. He will have to move to another spot when National closes. He parks his van in the parking lot and sells curry and other foods from it. I don't know what people are going to do without National. It is a meeting place as well as a grocery store.
October Activities 2011
Remember the 100 Dresses project? Well, we got pictures of little girls in the Philippines actually receiving them and trying them on! We had a Relief Society luncheon after the broadcast (on a Saturday a week after the live session). Sister Sorenson showed the pictures and also a letter from the ward. These hot pads were made by the Primary children for us as a thank you!

Now we need some turtlenecks to go with these jumpers that will be given to some people in northern Japan. They were too hot for summer wear but will be great for winter with some tights.
Enjoying the lunch ...
Sister Watabe had an idea for a baptism gift for a little girl in our branch. I made it and she had a lady write on it. It has the first principles and ordinances of the gospel in each block - Faith, repentance, baptism, and laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost".
