Not Really A Surprise!

We were listening to General Conference this afternoon when we heard the name Larry Miner Gibson. He was called as first counselor in the Young Men's Organization. It was a thrill to know that this wonderful man will be serving the youth of the Church. He has been a long time scouter, stake president, and father to five boys (and a girl), grandfather to MANY and a beloved uncle. We are honored to have him as a relative!
Here is what was on the news release - I am sure there will be more later.

Young Men General Presidency
A new Young Men general presidency was also announced. Brother David L. Beck was called as the general president of the Young Men, the Church’s organization for young men ages 12 though 18. Brother Larry M. Gibson and Brother Adrian Ochoa will serve as first and second counselors. Brother Charles W. Dahlquist II, Brother Dean R. Burgess and Brother Michael A.
Neider were released and received an expression of gratitude for their five years of leadership.

He'll be great, I'm sure. It was kind of weird hearing his name come out of nowhere while we were all sitting there listening. But as you said, not really a surprise -- Though I thought he'd be a mission president first.

He will do a wonderful job, and as Mark very well knows through his calling, the young men definitely need good leaders to help them in this world. Thanks for letting me know. I always knew he'd be a general authority someday!

Don't know why, but I was sitting there expecting to hear his name called. Guess we all kind of knew!
