March 12th '11 Earthquake

Friday, March 11, 2011 - the largest earthquake to hit Japan occurs! I am in the Asia North Area office building on the 7th floor. When the building started to shake, it was so scary! I couldn't believe how long it lasted! Here I am AFTER getting out from under the desk! Some minimal damage - computer off the desk ...
Looking down at the people in hard hats who had evacuated a building .
The pictures on the wall were crooked ...
This was about all that happened in our apartment except that a container of sugar fell all over the kitchen floor.
And this picture in our bedroom was askew.
We were very blessed! Sendai was hit with a huge tsunami which killed hundreds and damaged so much property. All the missionaries are safe except they are still trying to hear from 8 in the Sendai mission. All in all, a scary experience!!

So glad you and Dad are safe and sound. Definitely a life changing experience though! My heart goes out to those who lost their loved ones from the tragedy. Life is so fragile. Thank you for talking to us last night- it was a great comfort to me. I was worried all day! Best wishes as you travel safely this week!

We're so glad to hear you guys and all your missionaries are safe and accounted for! We'll pray for the Sendai missionaries and people of Tokyo.

We have been thinking about you, so sad about what has happened, but glad to see you safe and that you have a hard hat!

So glad it wasn't worse for you than it could have been. You look a little shaken up in the picture! The bishop mentioned you both in church today asking ward members to pray for you and everyone in Japan. Hopefully that is a once in a lifetime experience you'll never have to experience again!

Hi Grandma & Grandpa, this is Sloane. I'm glad you're OK. I've never seen a hard hat before, it looks like a bike helmet. How did you know to be prepared? Well I miss you and love you. Love Sloane.
