Elder Gibson and Elder Goth waiting for the departure.
This is from the Japan Times just the day before we left. March 11, 2011 was the biggest earthquake ever recorded 9.0 on the scale.
We weren't sure we would be able to travel.
Hokkaido is the large island at the top of Japan. Sapporo is where the mission home is located.
We got to the mission home in time for a fireside for investigators and new members.
President Daniels serves up delicious cinnamon bread after the meeting.
Sister Daniels holds Bella, the mission dog.
Here she shows us the tie banner that she is making out of the the ties that are cut off on the last day of a mission. Even the Sisters get to have a tie cutting. The names and dates are written on the tie. The banners will be displayed at future reunions.
Checking up on the news of the disasters of Japan - earthquakes, tsunamis, radiation leakage!
Getting the van loaded for our trip to Asahikawa for the first meeting.
The sign on the mission home.
The assistants to the president in the back seat.
The Navi is invaluable in finding various places.
One of the many tunnels we passed through as we went through the mountains.
We arrived in time to join the missionaries in their Preparation Day activity - bowling!

Wow, what an eventful week or two you've had as well as all of those missionaries! Looks like everyone is trying to make the transition as smooth as possible. Love the tie-cutting ceremony and the banner--how creative!
Love the tie banner! And that's great someone got a shot of your strike - bet they all thought you were some sort of pro for minute! Glad you were still able to travel during all that turmoil!
Thanks for the update with pictures. What an adventure! I'm imagining how exhausted the Sapporo Mission President and his wife must be this week. What a lot of work!
It's good to see you both doing so well! We love you and look forward to more updates!
Love these pictures, Mom! It's fascinating to me to read about your experiences. You look so pretty in your red jacket! Congrats on the strike too! Cute to see the missionary in the background ready to give you a high five! :) The tie banner is a great idea too. I'm glad the traveling went well during such a scary time. Everyone you meet seem like such sweet, great people. They are probably very impressed with what amazing people you and Dad are too. Thanks again for the fun pictures and update!
