Another Side of Tokyo

We took a subway and the Japan Railroad just a few stops to a street that is quite a bit different from our neighborhood! It has the atmosphere of a carnival or Las Vegas. It reminded me of New Orleans on Fat Tuesday or something like that. People everywhere - and a lot of them dressed crazily. It was NOT a good place for young missionaries to be - or old ones either - but young ones are not allowed here. Looking down the street.
I tried to get some pictures but it was hard because you don't want people to know that you are photgraphing them specifically.

This is the reason we went there - to go to the 100 Yen Store (think Dollar Tree or Family Dollar).
I tried to get a picture of someone in a mask - they are everywhere!! People are more concerned with others' health than they are about their own health (lots of smoking, etc.)

Here are some of the outfits that I had heard about (Bo Peep type things).
And full leather suits were displayed and worn. We also saw a lot of piercings. I wish I could have got this BoPeep from the front or a closer view. Actually, she looked like she was ready for a Halloween costume party!
More candid shots - lots of legs and heels and boots and bleached hair.
Buying a kabob for dinner - delicious!
School girls - wonder what they think of what they are seeing?
Must have been a huge sale going on - at least it was a huge sign!
They have people outside the shops who are yelling at you to come inside - just like the people who wave signs along State Street for various businesses.
This beautiful car was just left with the windows open and the door unlocked while the young girl went off with a guy who came up to the window and called her "Darling". I wouldn't have trusted him or leaving the car.
Here is a better picture of that fellow trying to get people to enter his shop.
And here is a better picture of someone in a mask.
I was glad to get back to our neighborhood! But "opposition in all things", right?

My favorite picture was of the Kabobs! I'd love one of those right now.

Incidentally, to my family . . . The Gibson Gazette still has a weekly letter on it and is available for comments. :-)

I wonder why that place wasn't allowed for young missionaries?! (J.K.) :) Very Las Vegas style, so interesting to see! Those Bo Peep dresses are funny- maybe they will come in style in America someday? I think it's fun to see how many of the women bleach their hair. I guess they get tired of the normal black hair! Anyway, you are definitely having exciting adventures! Braydon is graduating from Kindergarten today and is so cute. He's doing awesome in T-Ball and Denny celebrated his 71st birthday on Wednesday watching his game. He was very proud of him. He's got a great throw- definitely all from his daddy! DJ returns home tonight and we're hoping to start putting the floor in the basement this weekend, but life is so busy now with dance competitions, yard work, and school ending. I'm looking forward to our Las Vegas trip in just 2 1/2 weeks! I'm working very hard on our yard and grass this week. You'd be amazed at what I've googled and figured out how to do by myself. This city girl is finding her Payson country roots, I guess! :) PS: Mark, I'm so sorry I'm behind on the Gibson Gazette. Time sometimes is tricky for me to keep up on everything. I love you guys and hope to visit very soon! I'll try to catch up on reading everyone else's blogs this weekend too- I'm hopelessly flawed in that area! :)

That looks fun. Did you have fun in the 100 yen store? Sounds like a good place to buy souvenirs. The kabobs bring back memories for me too, but I wouldn't choose to eat them as a non-missionary. I'm getting ready for graduation all day today - it's tomorrow morning. Then I've got Ella (and Tanna's) party on Tuesday. Then I can breathe...and maybe read Mark's blog (hey, I did look at the new pictures before I got interrupted!)

Yeah, I saw those baby-doll dresses on a show. They have a special word they call that generation of girls that wear them that I can't remember now. Interesting!

I will try and send that suit today. I need to go to the post office today. Luckily we have plenty of boxes around to choose from! Hope I send everything you need.

Mark (if you happen to read this again), I haven't gotten my computer hooked up to the internet yet since the move and have been using Dan's. I don't have your blog address on here so as soon as I get my computer, I'll catch up!

That looks like a place I definitely wouldn't have been able to go to on my mission. Sounds like Dad's presentation went well. Good luck with your upcoming travels.

Great pictures! I am interested to find out what you got at the 100Yen store. Was it worth the trip? Wow, you really are having an adventure, aren't you?! Thanks for sharing Tokyo with us!
