Riding the Bullet Train

Early Tuesday morning we took a taxi to the train station where we boarded the superexpress (bullet train) to Nara. Here it comes (the nose is shaped like a bullet)! Wish I could have taken a better picture but it comes so fast!
View from the train - leaving Toyko.
Taken from the window as we stopped at a station.
Mountains in the distance and green fields everywhere.
At times we were so high above the ground that it seemed we were flying.
Mt. Fugi is in the distance - in the midst - it is hard to see it here but it was beautiful!

Rice paddies - seems like a perfect place to breed mosquitos!
The seat backs had all the instructions on them for bathrooms, garbage cans, smoking cars, etc.
People waiting to board
I didn't know what this was at first - but it is the symbol for Nara. You saw these figures everywhere. They are celebrating the 1300th anniversary!
It took us about 3 hours on the train to get to Nara. It is a tourist destination and as you will see from the next blog, it must have been school field trip day!
Maps are below.
