September 1st

Dad started his birthday as usual (except that I made him eggs and toast - this is a picture of his usual breakfast of oatmeal). He talked to 6 missionaries in his white shirt and jeans but had to change to a tie and black pants to take out the garbage!
Risa and Bishop Ohanata (sp?) came over to surprise him with a tie and birthday cake!! They were so sweet. We have Risa over each Friday before the temple and Bishop and his daughter joined us last week. You should have seen Bishop's face when Rulon told him he was 68 now! It was priceless! He must be very young!
While Rulon was working, I went to Costco with some of the other couples. Here are some of the things I saw. Halloween and Christmas things were all out!

Looks like wagons are going to be a big item this year!
Pretty Fancy!
This looks like a Marble Works type of thing only with all the planets.
A dollhouse to die for!
Just wanted Scottie and Mason to know that Toy Story is here - I didn't see Toy Story 3 though.
Pirates and firemen - I also saw some astronaut costumes but that was all. I don't know how big Halloween is here.
I love these fluffy little tutu skirts for little girls. I bet they have the same things in the Costcos there - but I'm sure that things are a lot more expensive here.
By the way, THIS is the old VW that we saw. The other one was much newer. Anyway, they were both red!

All in all, a great birthday for Rulon. We have received greetings today also even though it is now the 2nd here! We know your hearts are in the right place!

We tried to Skype, but must not have your correct number. We're also not receiving replies to the e-mails we sent. Maybe everything we have is wrong. Anyway, we DID try to contact Dad on your September 1st. Hope you at least got our e-mail note. Hope the birthday was a great one.

I'm so glad Dad had a great birthday! How sweet of the Bishop and Risa to bring a cake. Maybe he thought Dad looked way too handsome and young to be turning 68! :) The Christmas things from Costco were fun to look at. It seems so early though! I'm so happy to see a little window of your world through these neat pictures!
