Nikko Trip Part 3

This is a carving of elephants done by someone who had never seen one! Everywhere you saw images of The Three Wise Monkeys - also lots of souvenirs were for sale with them on it - I only bought two!
Looking up toward the shrine.
Look at the ornate carving!
Amazing carvings and statues!
This is just ONE of many carvings of groups of people around the top of a shrine.
Doggies in their coats -it was chilly!
This is the famous resting cat - lots of souvenirs with this on them too!
Stairs, stairs, stairs!
Elder Grames getting a dip of water from a natural spring.
And Sister Watabe does the same.
I bet the person in the wheelchair never made it up to the shrines!
Shorts and boots - the fad here.
Huge bell.
Love the moss!
Taking off our shoes for each shrine was just part of the routine!
Just look at the carving - what a lot of years must have gone into building such buildings!
Had to get a picture of the red jacket and red shoes!
Here is a group getting a picture taken in front of a shrine.
I snapped one of them also!
Lots of school groups were visiting -yellow caps everywhere!
Look at the leaves through the tori gate!
Workers repairing the roof.
Horse ready to take riders around - he is showing us that he can stand on three legs!
Here's our fun group!
Couldn't resist snapping this couple!
Rulon standing standing by the wreath of good fortune.
Huge drum in shrine.
One type of tree growing out of another!
Another shrine.

Call me a germaphobe, but all I could think about when I saw the pictures was "How many people have had their mouths on those dippers from the fresh spring?"

Looks like a fun outing though.
