November 5th

It has been 30 years (October 27, 1980) since the Tokyo Temple was dedicated. There was a special devotional that we attended on Nov. 3rd to commemorate it. We left a little early and had dinner at this Shakey's Pizza place - yum! Although one piece of pizza that I had was topped with seafood and there were bits of octopus on top. Some of the missionaries waiting for the devotional to begin - the Pinckneys, Sister Inoye, and Sister Goth. A DVD had been made showing the announcement of the Tokyo Temple by President Spencer W. Kimball. There were tears and cheers as he announced the temple (after the translator finished and they could understand). It was very moving and then the progress and dedication were shown. What a jewel to have here in this land - and now there will be three temples here!
It is dark, but you can see the big Kijijoji chapel and the hundred of bikes that were parked there along with the cars. The devotional was very well attended and translation was provided for those of us who don't speak Japanese.
This is the corridor leading to the station where we boarded the train for the hour plus ride home.
I know this is random - but here is an art display in one of the windows as we walked along.
Elder and Sister Grames putting more money on their card so they can ride the subway/train.
Elder Gibson tolerating me taking his picture.
Some of our group heading home - the Grames, Elder Fillmore and another sister who had been to the meeting and was on our train.
Dad's new yukata! He tried it on for our company last night. Doesn't he look dashing!
And the best thing that happened all week was the birth of Hayden Daniel Cavan today at 5:40 P.M. in Provo, Utah. He was 7 lbs. 5 oz. and 20 inches long. His parents are Dan and Paige and his big sister is Natalia. We were able to get the news via Skype and we also saw him. We watched Natalia see her brother for the first time as Lynn brought her over from Spanish Fork. We are thankful for the safe arrival of little Hayden! Here is the sign I put on our front door to announce his birth.

I wish we could have seen Natalia's face when she met Hayden. That would have been priceless. Glad you got to "see" him. You're doing better than I am, and I'm only 2 1/2 hours away.

Dad, you look great in your thingy.

I wonder if that clip of President Kimball announcing the temple is online anywhere. I'd love to see it.

Love the pic of dad. Sounds like a fun temple fireside and a good reminder of how important it is.

I love how you put a sign announcing the baby on your front door! I'm glad you were able to see him so soon- what great timing! Natalia was adorable. Her eyes just lit up when she saw her brother for the first time! I'm glad you enjoyed the temple dedication. I can't believe Japan has 3 now! Dad, I also think you look great in your "thingy". :) You'd be a cute little old Japanese man!
