November 7th

It was a beautiful autumn day and so we took time to go to this see the chrysanthemum festival at the Shinjuku Gyoen . This was completed in 1906 as an imperial garden during the Meiji period in Japan. Rulon purchasing our tickets.
Standing by a big tree that is being protected. It was wrapped up so carefully. Trees are very well taken care of here.
Many others had the same idea - to enjoy the beautiful weather and park.
I still love seeing these brooms!
November rose! There were still some beautiful roses in the French garden.
Here they were selling crafts and jewelry, food, etc.
I wish I could have got some of these beautiful hand knit sweaters for our grandchildren.
Contrast! The Municipal Building in the background of the beautiful park.
Here is the French Formal Garden with the rose beds and rows of Sycamore trees on both sides.
All the beautifully manicured bushes - some were turning color. Fall is late this year because of the very hot summer.
Rulon reading the map to see where to go next.
Gravel paths make no difference to women who wear high heels. This is very typical of many of the younger Japanese women - style is very important.
Of course, many of the older women are more practical. This is our walking footwear! Comfortable but not very stylish - who cares!!?
The Chrysanthemum Exhibit was wonderful! It is only during a two week period in November.
This is a Japanese Tea House. It wasn't open to the public yesterday.
He is not loving having me take so many pictures of him!

A full sized bonsai tree - love the shape of the trunk and the branches.
A view of the open spaces with the dense trees in the background.
Cute little boys following their daddy!
Sprays of chrysanthemums!
He is serious about getting a good picture!
Mounds of chrysanthemums! (Think I will ever be able to spell it without looking it up??)
A koi in one of the ponds.
The girl is wearing heels - hard to see though.
Some homeless person has made a little shelter under these umbrellas.
Why did I take this picture? Because it is so RARE to see public garbage bins! Usually, you have to carry your garbage home. This worker was there to make sure that things were sorted correctly - burnable vs. non-burnable!
And another subway sign - I think this means Don't use your ipod or phone where it will bother people.
All in all, it was a fun afternoon and a great walk. The weather was perfect!

Those were beautiful pictures! I loved those "c" flowers- but I could never spell it either! :) The trees are gorgeous too- especially with the tea houses in the background. What fun! I loved your practical shoes too- I hate high heels, unless I'm at church! Also, I just have to say that Dad looked SO much like Chris in the picture of him reading the map! I'm glad you guys had fun!
