Iris Festival at Meiji Shrine

We took an excursion today to the Meiji Shrine to see the iris festival. They are in bloom for just a few weeks. People come from all over Japan and the world to see them. A lantern along the path
Passing over a bridge
I love getting pictures of people in traditional dress. Wish I could take pictures from the front!
It takes a lot of characters to just write NO SMOKING!
Rulon and Elder Dimick
Fields of beautiful purple and white iris!
A closeup - notice how they grow in water instead of dirt.
Artists sketching the scene
This garden was made for the empress from the emporer.
Some man offered to take my picture.
The fences were strips of bamboo that were bent and pushed into the ground.
This is a koi - it was bright orange but doesn't show up well in the picture.
Water lilies in the pond.
Elder and Sister Goth - the new medical advisers.
This poster shows you the extent and size of the gardens.
A place hidden in the woods - not the shrine.
Tools to tidy up the path
Poster on a bamboo door.
At the gift shop...

I bought one of these - a scarf with irises on it and the shrine painted on it. This one was framed.
Old and new - this man was personalizing chopsticks by using a computer!
Banner at the gift shop - probably says "gift shop".
A wall of wine kegs. These were huge.
And wine kegs that have been donated by various persons or organizations for consecration.
We were lucky enough to see two wedding processions. Here are some from the first one -it was hard to get close enough.
The next wedding procession we were able to get better pictures. I'll put them on tomorrow's post.
And they had these trees on display.

I'll quit for now - what an exciting day!

Hello again. I've been loving your posts, but not commenting for lack of time. Looks like beautiful country!
