Trip to the Imperial Gardens (Part 1)
We went with the Dimicks and the Watabes to the Imperial Gardens on Saturday. Here we are waiting for the subway.
The moat and huge stone walls.
Contrast - that is Japan! Ancient and ultramodern.

The sign showing the layout of the gardens.
Elder Gibson and Elder Watabe about to enter the huge gate.
Look at the massive doors!
Never thought I would be here!
How did they ever build these walls?
Hydrangeas - beautiful!
The Emperor's concert hall.
More descriptions.
Oh, the costumes we saw!
Modern Tokyo as seen from the ancient wall.
Rulon and Sisters Watabe and Dimick.
Looking down on a group of older people with a guide holding a flag. I took this because I thought it was in such contrast to all the school groups I have seen with their tour guides.
By a stand of bamboo trees.
He looks spiffy in his Chicago hat, doesn't he!
A sign showing all the various types of bamboo.
An ancient Japanese urn??? No, just an ashtray!
This cellar was rumored to have been a secret tunnel to treasures.

What a pretty place! I see a lot of students walking to campus from my office and a lot of the asian people have umbrellas even when it's sunny outside. Now I know why they have such beautiful, porcelain skin!
