Japanese Beetle

Today we walked down to Hanamasa to get some groceries. We were in line behind two ladies who had literally boxes of meats and other supplies. One of them turned to me and told me that they were workers at the temple in the cafeteria. They said they had brought a car and asked if we would we like a ride. They were so sweet that we couldn't turn them down. Rulon ended up helping them load the things into the van. The dropped us off at the PBO (Presiding Bishop's Office). When we were headed up the stairs, I saw this beautiful green beetle. I stopped and took the eggs out of a sack and captured it. Rulon thinks I am crazy. But I promised Dan that I would bring him a bug. I want to know if this is one that would be worth saving, Dan. I can put some rubbing alcohol in a baggie and put him in it IF you think it is rare or you don't already have 100 just like it. It is kind of an irridescent green/red color and is about an inch long. It is very slow moving and so it may be injured. In fact, I thought it was dead when I first saw it.
So now, who is your favorite mother-in-law??

Hi this is Dan
That is a scarab and I want it very much, nice catch, you win "the favorite relative of the month award", kinda like the yard of the week award in Payson only much more prestigious. Mark fails for his recent comments, but he can make up for it later this summer if he can point me in the right direction up in Wyoming, if you see any more grab them if you can. You can freeze it and send it in the mail, if you want, you can mail dried bugs just fine. Just mark as "dried dead insects for study."

Hi Dan,
I have Scarab (his new name) in a glass pepper shaker with alcohol in it. (And tape on the top). Should I put him in the freezer now? I thought I would see if I could see any others of his kind out there before I sent a package. How long will he last in the alcohol? He has a kind of coppery bottom.

Wow- you are brave to catch it, Mom! I made Dustin get out of bed sore from surgery just to kill a spider. I hate bugs! But I bet Dan will love that beetle, though I'm not sure I can agree that it is beautiful! :)
