July 6th

Last night we went to a fun restaurant for Family Home Evening with the Goths and the Watabes. A burner was placed on the table for each couple. There was a pan of hot broth on each burner. We were to pick up chopped vegetables and thinly sliced pork (and fatty bacon) with our chopsticks and put it in the bubbling broth. When it had cooked a bit, we fished it out and ate it. It was fun and also delicious. The vegetables were green onion stalks, cabbage, thinly sliced white raddish. There were sauces to dip it in also. When we were through, rice or noodles were brought so we could put it in the remaining broth and slurp it up! (That is considered fine here.) It was a great experience. I think it would be fun to do at home - if anyone would eat cabbage and raddishes! Here is the plastic version of our meal - NO we did not order the drinks! The pealike pods are really soybeans that have been marinated and were slightly salty. You just pushed on the end of the pod and they popped into your mouth!
Imagine my surprise when I saw Hillary Woodward at church on Sunday! She was on our Saturday shift at the Chicago Temple. She and a friend are vacationing through Japan for two weeks! They bought a rail pass and are traveling around to various places in this wonderful land. It was fun to seen her. I admire her in undertaking such an adventure. A tiny "Secret Garden" gate!
This doesn't show well but these are some of the luxury cars in our neighborhood.
Kim, maybe there could be an opportunity for you here!
This building was right between two main streets - built in the median.
First carwash I have seen here.
We passed this bag shop yesterday. I got a bag that I can carry over my shoulder. Dad got a new scripture case (it was supposed to be for a small personal computer). And we also bought a small new rolling suitcase. We probably made the shopkeeper's day!
I thought this was a cute sign for some sort of doctor.
World Cup fever is here also.
Rulon and Colonel Saunders! (Think he might like to hear the discussions?)
