July 26th

While Rulon was on the phone, I went with the Watabes to this open air market. It located about 18 subway stops from here. (That is how we measure distance here.) This market is right under a train track so you hear a lot of rumbling as it goes overhead. There was everything imaginable here from fish markets to dress shops.
Kimonos ....
Purses ... (note the little stuffed animals hanging from the handles)
Deciding on a bag ...
Ties ...
Pineapple sections on chopstick skewers. .. Yum!
Making dumplings ...
Satin embroidered jackets ...
Cookies ...
Levis ... the characters on the pockets say "Road to" and "Happiness" according to Elder Watabe.
Cowboy boots ...
Michael Jordan - yay, Bulls (from way back) ...
Silver belt buckles ...
Fish plus other seafood ...

This lady was making a Japanese "pizza" - that just means that it is round with ingredients on top. We bought one to share and it was really good. The crust was more like a pancake. (note the eggs just out in the sun).
This boy is from Australia - he is here visiting his girlfriend. He started to talk to us and it was good to hear English (with an accent).
He took our picture for us - the sun is too bright in the background but you get the idea.
OK - here are two almost unbelievable things - a watermelon that was completely square and one that weighed over 100 lbs. (I don't remember how many kilos).
Passion fruit and dragon fruit ...
Cream puffs ...
A little grocery store ...
Sale on kimonos and accessories ...
We got the girls to pose for us - see how they all do the peace sign when they get their picture taken!
This was a display with noodles going up and down in the air (really on a pole that was hidden).
A huge bowl of steaming broth - just a display ...
These were little bug toys - expensive or I would have bought some for the grandkids.
Another Saturday adventure!

Except for the gross fish, that market looks SO fun! I'd love to have gone exploring with you!

How fun! I loved the picture of the girls giving the peace sign in their kimonos. I loved seeing all the cool stuff for sale. People there look so happy. (Maybe they are happy to get your money?! :)) What a fun adventure!
